Neural Therapy was first discovered in Germany in the 1920’s. An accidental injection of a local anesthetic resulted in the instantaneous and permanent cure of a woman’s severe migraine headaches, from which she had regularly suffered for many years. Further investigation revealed that such injections would often result in other dramatic and instantaneous cures of a wide range of chronic illness and pain, even though the injection site was distant from the dis-eased or painful area. In recent years, the range of Neural Therapy procedures has expanded to include completely non-invasive and non-painful interventions, such as infrared light, electrical stimulation and magnetic fields, along with the use of homeopathic and other natural remedies. In addition, methods drawn from traditional and modern acupuncture science may also be incorporated.
WHY IS IT CALLED “NEURAL THERAPY”?
The instantaneous elimination of symptoms that may occasionally be seen with these methods, led to the recognition that such cures must include a change in the nervous system itself. Thus the name “Neural Therapy”, for any techniques that work directly to relieve dis-ease by removing blockages to normal neurological functioning in the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is that portion of the nervous system that is generally not under conscious control, and which continually acts to regulate normal functioning of all of the body’s cells, tissues and organs. It is only through the very rapid conduction of electrical signals in the nervous system that such seemingly instantaneous symptom changes can occur. Changes in the blood would take at least a few minutes.
WHAT IS AN INTERFERENCE FIELD?
The root of all “neural problems” is an “interference field”, or “neural focus”. Any tissue of the body may become an interference field, usually from the effects of chronic infection, toxicity, dysfunctional patterns of healing, and/or unresolved trauma. Common interference fields include teeth, sinuses, tonsils, scars, gallbladder, liver, lungs, colon, appendix, ovaries, prostate, old fracture sites, and the presence of foreign bodies.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF NEURAL INTERFERENCE FIELDS?
The abnormal functioning of the interference field results in abnormal neurological signals constantly arising in that area, since the autonomic nervous system is constantly sensing what is happening in that tissue. However, the nervous system is a totally interconnected electrical network. A “short circuit” in one area, constantly broadcasting its static into the greater neurological network, often results in further abnormal functioning elsewhere in the body. Other areas of the body that are stressed may be particularly susceptible to the effects of neural interference fields. It is not uncommon for these “downstream” neural effects to occur far from the original site. For example, a foot scar might be causing chronic neck pain, and a cystic ovary might trigger sinus allergies.
WHAT IS A NEURAL INTERFERENCE CIRCUIT?
A single primary interference field may be causing abnormal neurological signals to disturb the function of many other “downstream” tissues. We will call all of the downstream effects of a particular interference field its “interference circuit”. It is not unusual to find a root canal or infected tooth acting as a neural stressor to every organ on its side of the body, or a hysterectomy scar disturbing the functioning of every organ in the abdomen. While neural interference fields generally affect other downstream tissues on the same side of the body, this is not always the case.
Because a single interference field may compromise the function of many tissues, syndromes such as Chronic Fatigue, that include numerous symptoms in many areas of the body, often respond well to the addition of neural therapeutic methods. Just as any tissue in the body may become an interference field, so also any tissue in the body may be affected by one or more interference fields, and any interference field may affect any other tissue. Thus, any chronic illness or pain may include neural problems as part of its underlying set of causes.
WHAT ARE LAYERS OF PATHOLOGY, AND HOW ARE THEY TREATED?
In the early decades of Neural Therapy, instantaneous elimination of pain and other symptoms - called a “lightening reaction” - was seen more often than it is today. This is due to the tremendous increase in toxicity, nutritional problems, and other forms of serious stress that are part of modern culture. As a result, most chronic dis-ease is the result of multiple causes, or layers. These layers cannot be effectively addressed by any single method alone. Neural therapy can play a powerful role during this unraveling and healing process by removing the neurological circuit abnormalities that have developed as this layering process was created during an individual’s lifetime. This greatly facilitates other treatment modalities as well. While Neural Therapy can act as a powerful stand-alone treatment, it is most effectively used as part of a broader approach.
The concept of layers is very useful for understanding how true healing actually occurs. In the body, there are many layers of toxic storage, trauma, nutrient imbalances, reactivities, chronic infections, and drug and vaccination damage. Neural interference fields and their associated interference circuits also exist in layers. Once a particular interference field has been removed, an entirely different neural interference circuit may become evident, and be ready for treatment. In this way, the body’s circuits are put back in order step by step. As the nervous system functions with increasing efficiency, the unraveling of the entire dis-ease process occurs more readily and deeply. This can be a remarkable process to observe and experience.
HOW ARE INTERFERENCE FIELDS DETERMINED?
A thorough history is very important for indicating possible interference fields. Traditional Neural Therapy depended on the clinical intuition of the practitioner, and trial injections. A more elegant method is the use of kinesiology, or muscle response testing. This type of non-invasive assessment allows for an immediate and detailed picture of active interference fields, any hierarchy among them, their associated interference circuits, and appropriate methods of treatment. It also has the advantage of demonstrating quite clearly to the individual being tested the reality and extent of these neurological disturbances.
HOW DOES NEURAL THERAPY WORK?
The most important aspect of all Neural Therapy interventions is the temporary increasing of energy in the interference field during the treatment. This energy is provided by light, electricity, magnetic fields, or combinations of these. An adequate increase of biologically-useful energy in chronically dysfunctional tissue allows the electrical potential of the cells to normalize, which triggers other cell activities to also move toward increasingly healthy function. When this normalized electrical state becomes constant, the tissue is no longer acting as an interference field, and its associated neural circuit disturbances elsewhere in the body are eliminated. The use of homeopathic and other remedies during the treatment and after, facilitates the healing process. Neural Therapy may even trigger the elimination of toxins and other healing effects which are not related directly to the specific interference fields which are being treated during the session. This also occurs because the nervous system is an interconnected communication network encompassing the entire body. Normalizing function in one area may trigger a healing cascade elsewhere.
